Bonus Mathematics
Understanding the math behind bonuses helps you make informed decisions. Suppose you claim a 100% welcome bonus up to $200 with a 30x wagering requirement on the deposit plus bonus. You deposit $100 and receive $100 bonus, giving you a total of $200 in bonus funds.
Wagering requirement: 30 × ($100 + $100) = $6,000. You must wager $6,000 before you can withdraw any winnings from the bonus.
If the game you play has a 96% RTP (house edge 4%), the expected loss during wagering is 4% of $6,000 = $240. Since your initial cash is $100, your expected value (EV) is: EV = ($100 × 0.96^? — simplified) Actually, a more accurate formula considers the probability of completing wagering:
Let B = bonus amount = $100, D = deposit = $100, WR = wagering requirement = 30×(D+B)=$6,000, RTP = 0.96, house edge = 0.04. The expected loss from wagering = WR × (1 – RTP) = $6,000 × 0.04 = $240. Total cash in = D = $100. Expected cash out after wagering = (D + B) × RTP^(WR/(D+B))? Not exactly; simpler approach: If you complete wagering, you keep the bonus winnings minus losses. But a common estimate: EV ≈ D – (WR × house edge) = 100 – 240 = -$140. However, you also have the chance to win more. In reality, the bonus is negative expected value unless you use optimal strategy. Always read terms: maximum bet, game contributions, and expiry.
For a $10 deposit with a 100% bonus and 20x wagering (D+B only), WR = 20×20=$400, expected loss = $400×0.04=$16, EV = 10 – 16 = -$6. Still negative. Use bonuses only if you enjoy the play or if the wagering is low enough.
